About My Services

What is body-oriented psychotherapy?

Body-oriented psychotherapy (often called "somatic" psychotherapy) refers to any psychotherapy that takes the connections between body and mind into account. In approaching a session, my view is that the body and mind are one functionally connected unit. In other words, sometimes problems that appear to exist in the mind can be addressed through the body, and vice-versa.

The specific school of therapy that I have studied is Core Energetics, which can be thought of as neo-Reichian in its origins and approach.

Who is this for?

-Have you tried traditional talk therapies and found that talking alone has not sufficed to shift your emotional patterns?

-Are you feeling stuck and looking to stop cutting yourself short in life?

-Are you looking for a new set of tools for handling long-standing emotional challenges?

In all of these cases, a body-oriented approach may be suitable to your needs. By bringing the body into therapy, it becomes easier to work with the non-verbal components of emotional patterns.

What can I expect from a session?

Sessions will vary depending on presenting needs, but you can expect our sessions together to include a mix of talking, body awareness, movement, and expression. The body may also be used as a resource for fostering a sense of grounding, stability, and containment. You can expect to come out of a session understanding a bit more about yourself, and maybe having released some pent up emotion.

Core Energetics also places an emphasis on what is called the "Higher Self"--acknowledging your own unique authentic gifts and potential. This can help provide a counter-weight to heavy and difficult emotions.

About Me

I am currently completing my student hours as part of a 3-year diploma in Body Psychotherapy. In addition, I have completed the following relevant qualifications.

  • BCA (Honours) in Music
  • Diploma in Kriya Yoga
  • Cert IV in Massage

I came to this form of therapy after studying yoga, counselling, and massage. This naturally brought me to take an interest in the intersections between body and mind. I had also read about Wilhelm Reich and some neo-Reichian practitioners independently, and that made me curious to learn more about this way of thinking and practicing. My interest eventually took me to the Institute of Body Psychotherapy, where I am now completing my student hours as a final component of their Diploma qualification.

Pricing and Details

Currently, sessions are condicuted online. I offer a free 30 minute initial consultation for prospective new clients. This allows both of us to get a feel for how it might be to interact and work together before committing to sessions. The prices below are valid while I am completing my hours as a student practitioner.

Single Session

$30 / session
For a limited time, I have substantially reduced my prices in order to more quickly complete student requirements.

3 Sessions

$25 / session
Those who are willing to firmly commit to 3 sessions at a time will receive an automatic discount. This can also be seen as an opportunity to commit to your own process for a specific length of time. Therapy is often a long-term commitment, but at times it can be daunting to feel like that commitment stretches on indefinitely. This can be a way of approaching it in bite-sized chunks.
